Day 780

Aka Thursday 21st March 2019

Had my long walk today and managed to walk 10.34km (6.42miles) in 1 hour 53 minutes, which burnt 1,100 calories and took 12,849 steps…and then some weights at home…

…when I got home my copy of ‘Everywhere At The End Of Time: Stages 4 - 6’ by ‘The Caretaker’ had arrived:

…although I haven’t properly listened to ‘Everywhere At The End Of Time: Stages 1 – 3’ yet, so listening to ‘…Stages 4 – 6’ will have to wait’ for a little while…

…and I read ‘Criminal#3 which concludes the tale of Jacob, an ex-comicbook artist, who has been asked to look after Hal Crane, a famous comicbook artist who will be getting a lifetime achievement award. We learn a lot more about Hal in this issue, get to see a glimpse behind the ‘bitter old man’ mask, and, although there is some crime in this issue, you (or at least I) remember that ‘Criminal’ isn’t really about crime, it’s about people and why they do the things they do (which sometimes/most times involve some criminal aspects/elements). Hal has been worn down by life and the way he deals with it, to protect himself, is by being bitter and cynical, but what he really wants is a reminder of the good times, when he was flying high. Which is what most of us want, and maybe Jacob is seeing a possible future for himself in Hal’s present? As per usual Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips and Jacob Phillips have produced a very enjoyable issue/story, and there’s an informative letters page and a superb Kim Morgan article, about the film ‘The Color of Money’, which has really made me want to see it. 9/10.

…and I did the G2 Crossword:

…which went a little downhill, compared to yesterday’s crossword, as I had to cheat on two ninths of the clues (four out of 18) and the little grey cells were working overtime to get the clues I did get. But at least I learnt that ‘superfluity’ means an ‘excessively large amount’, a ‘chemise’ is a ‘loose-fitting dress without a waist’ and that ‘lugubrious’ means ‘mournful’. And I’m vexed that I didn’t get ‘Goddess’ from ‘Minerva, for example’ as I’m a big fan of ‘The Wicked and The Divine’ in which ‘Minerva’ kinda’ plays a big role!
