Aka Wednesday 30th January 2019
Today I had three job interviews today…the first seemed to
go pretty well, it was at a job agency for a post at DEFRA, they were happy
with my post work experience and really just wanted to get a better
understanding of how I would fit in with the rest of the team…so it mostly felt
like an informal chat (and later in the day I got a call back saying that they wanted
me in the team, but that they were waiting to confirm with DEFRA exactly want
they wanted in terms of personnel…although as I write this, 26th
February I’m still waiting to have the offer officially made!)…
…the second interview was at the Ministry of Justice and I
felt that it went pretty good (narrator voice: it didn’t go that well and he
didn’t make it past the interview stage)…and I felt warmed up from the first
interview…but they asked me a question I hadn’t prepared for, ‘Why did I want
the post’…a pretty obvious question, buy since I’ve been on Universal Credit my
first criteria for applying for jobs has changed from how interesting the job
is, is it something that will engage and challenge and be something meaty, too
do I meet the job criteria, could I make it an interview and do the job…it’s a
subtle difference, but also a massive difference…
…the last interview was at the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Housing…and at the time I thought that it went somewhere between middling
and fair…but I wasn’t asked for any proof of i.d. documentation, which makes me slightly suspicious
that the interview went pretty poorly or that they already picked out who they
want for the post and were just going through the motions…I guess we’ll see
soon enough…also I was feeling a little tired of talking about myself and I don’t
think that I was representing myself at my best…there was also a weird section
of the interview, where I was basically asked word association style questions…
…and here’s some pictures I took while traveling to/waiting for my first
interview:
…and the quality shoots back up for today’s crossword as I
only needed to cheat on one twenty-third of the clues (one out of 23), I just
couldn’t get from ‘nous’ to ‘gumption’, but a near clean sweep is still pretty
good. I think having been through three interviews sharpened me up for the
crossword as it was as if the little grey cells were firing on all cylinders.
