Aka Wednesday 23rd January 2019
Today I picked up these New Comic Book Day gems:
…and these Lorelle Meets The Obsolete albums, ‘Chambers’ and
‘De Facto’ (lots of lovely shoegazy, dream poppy music to enjoy):
…and when I got home the ‘Street Kings’ and ‘Street Kings 2’
double pack was waiting for me:
…I’ve already talked about how much I like ‘Street Kings’
(which I’d watched on Netflix), so I decided to get the DVD (just in case
Netflix ever loses the rights to stream it) and the double pack was cheaper
than ‘Street Kings’ on its own. There’s the usual extras for ‘Street Kings’ –
deleted scenes, commentary, etc. and ‘Street Kings 2’ isn’t a bad film, it’s
got a good script, cast, etc., it just isn’t as good as ‘Street Kings’. And I
think that’s because the story is more straight forward, the bad cop is just
corrupt and isn’t doing small bad things to justify a bigger good, which is
what Keanu Reeves’s character was doing in the first film. 8/10 for 'Street
Kings' and 6.5/10 for 'Street Kings 2'.
I also watched ‘Close’, about a bodyguard, Sam Carlson played
by Noomi Rapace, her client and a corrupt mining deal, and for most of its run
time Sam is playing a game of cat and mouse as she tries to keep her client
safe, get her home and fend of the bad guys. There’s always a bit of backstory
about Sam being estranged from her daughter, because Sam gave her up for adoption,
and how this plays out wither client, who is a teenaged girl. It’s not a great film
but is a decent and enjoyable action suspense flick. 7/10.
…and I did the G2 Crossword:
…which, compared to yesterday’s crossword, does a 180 degree
turn as I only needed to cheat on one of the 24 clues. Would have been a
perfect score if I hadn’t got stuck on thinking of the clue for 22 across,
‘woolly’ as relating to wool, if I’d thought more laterally, I would have
realised that the answer was ‘inexact’. Is this the start of a rollercoaster of
ups and downs? Will Thursday’s crossword be a stumper? Only one way to find
out…
...and I did some other crosswords and newspaper puzzles:
