Aka Sunday 20th January 2019
Back to my morning exercise walk (I walked a total of 9.84km
(or 6.11miles) in 1hour 51minutes and 28seconds, which took 12,476 steps and
burnt 1,100 calories)…
…and I finished watching Season Two of Netflix’s ‘The Punisher’,
which was pretty good, almost as good as the first season. In a nutshell Frank
gets involved with a political blackmail plot and Jigsaw tries to get revenge
on Frank.
There’s plenty of shoot-outs and fist-fights, emotional
depth, just the right amount of humour to offset the deaths and mayhem. And we
get to see Frank have some emotional growth and explore why he is The Punisher
(beyond avenging his families’ death), although the effects of the storyline
kinda leave Frank deciding to reject that growth so that he can be effective as
The Punisher.
Season Two is well written, acted, directed and shoot and
wardrobe’d, set designed, etc, but like a lot of the Marvel/Netflix series it
does feel a little flabby in places and you feel that they could have told the story
in ten or eleven episodes rather than thirteen. And it does feel like the middle
of a trilogy, so it’s a pity that won’t be a third season (I’m pretty sure that,
like the other Marvel/Netflix series, it’s going to be a victim of the Disney
streaming service and be cancelled). 8/10.
...and ‘FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened’, which
tells the story of a very upmarket festival, Fyre Festival, for millennials and
Instragram/social media influencers held on a Bahamian island, that falls
victim to the people organising it having plans greater than their ability to
make those plans a reality. Although there is a theory that it was just one big
money laundering scheme. My top two take aways for me were that the island residents
were screwed over and that Billy McFarland, the guy at the top, is either an
idiot or a fraudster.
