Aka Thursday 10th January 2019
Today I read:
‘Criminal’ #1: A double-sized first issue centring on the Lawless
family in a story about doing what you have to do to look out for family, even
when you’re not particularly fond of them. A story that nearly perfectly
encapsulates the ‘Criminal’ flavour of noir, with our characters getting little
victories, followed by losses to pay for that victory, all with an air of finality
that sooner or later the little victories will vanish and losses will come back
to bite them. 9/10.
‘Cemetery Beach’ #5: Just gets more and more actiony as Mike
and Grace’s escape continues and we see and learn a little more of the “joys” of
the new world (just before Mie and Grace blow it up!). 8/10.
‘William Gibson’s Alien 3’ #3: The Xenomorph starts to make
itself felt as the Union and the Company’s plans to exploit them doesn’t go
according to plan. And by felt I mean that in the ‘…red in tooth and claw…’
way! 7/10.
…and I finished and submitted a new job application (kinda
getting a bit bored of making applications and not getting offers, but what can
you do?)…
…and I did the G2 Crossword:
…and we’re back to the nose dive today, as I have to cheat
on a third of the clues again (seven out of 21), although this time it wasn’t
due to the answers not coming, rather it was due to either going for the wrong
answer, e.g. ‘ak-ak’ and not ‘flak’ or just not knowing the answer, like not
knowing that a ‘gardener’s basket’ is called a ‘trug’ or that a ‘furnished
holiday home in France’ is called a ‘Gite’.
