Day 779

Aka Wednesday 20th March 2019

Popped up to London Town today for New Comic Book Day, and what a fine haul I got:

…and I got replacements for my tumbled broken shoes and joggers…all of which meant that I walked 8.87km (5.51miles) in 2 hours 28 minutes and 02 seconds, which meant I burnt 1,135 calories and took 14,955 steps… and when I got home, I did a little online job hunting and watched ‘Clown’ and re-watched ‘As Above, So Below’.

‘Clown’ is an odd horror film about a father, Kent’ gets stuck inside a clown costume. After which we find out that the clown costume is “actually the hair and skin of an ancient demon from Northern Europe which was long forgotten: the "Clöyne", which attracted five children to devour” and that the costume is transforming and taking over Kent. ‘Clown’ does feels like it would have made a good episode of ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘Tales Of The Unexpected’ or ‘The X-Files’, but as a film it has the space to really show Kent changing, how he reacts to his change and how his family also reacts. And for me these are the true horror aspects of the film, rather than the blood and guts and deaths. I think the only thing that let’s ‘Clown’ down is that when you describe the plot, it can sound very silly, but it’s not, there’s an angst to it, a maturity/deepness that the plot might not lead you to expect. 7/10.

And ‘As Above, So Below’ is still as good as it was on the first watch, the re-watch (and knowing the “twist”) adds a bit of extra weight to certain scenes and lines.

…and I did the G2 Crossword:

…which goes a little better than yesterday’s crossword, as I only have to cheat on a sixth of the clues (four out of 24), but I should have gotten three of those four – ‘spinach’ from ‘green vegetable’, ‘waive’ from ‘forgo’ and ‘thesis’ from ‘dissertation’, especially as I spent a significant amount of my pay cheque after university paying back my student loan to Thesis Servicing, but I did learn that ‘Alsace’ is a ‘French wine region’...and I did some other crosswords/puzzles:
