Day 772

Aka Wednesday 13th March 2019

Today I walked a total of 8.89km (5.52 miles) in 2 hour 22 minutes and 22 seconds, which took 13,916 steps and burnt 1,092 calories…

…and during all this walking I talked with the job agency about the Private Members Club job offer in a bit more detail…

…and I picked up these New Comic Book Day gems:

…and these CDs:

I got a second copy of ‘The White Room’ by ‘The KLF’ partly because my other copy is in storage and I haven’t got easy access to it (aside from mp3s I’ve downloaded) and partly because of generally nostalgia and as a little treat, following a couple of job applications that didn’t make it past the interview stage. And listening to it does take me back to simpler times, although the album does sound pretty timeless (although the dub/reggae elements do date it to the early ‘90’s 😊) and still exciting and inventive. A large part of the appeal, I think, is the self-mythology and references to the Illuminatus Trilogy, as it adds an extra dimension. And then there’s the quieter, more mellow tracks (like ‘Build A Fire’) that showcase the musicianship of Bill and Jimmy and counterpoint the bangin’ tracks (like ‘What Time Is Love’ and ‘Last Train To Trancentral’), which also showcase their musicianship, just in a different, less traditional way. 10/10.

…and I got ‘Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia’ by ‘The Dandy Warhols’ which might be the best Dandies album I’ve heard so far. It’s got the druggyness and loucheness of the previous albums, but with a clear headiness that means that tracks don’t meander into boringness/nothing and the album sounds like a proper album. Standout tracks for me are ‘Godless’ (and you should get the single, which has some great 'Massive Attack' remixes on it), ‘Nietzsche’, ‘Horse Pills’, ‘Bohemian Like You’ and ‘The Gospel’, but like I said it’s a great album overall and doesn’t feel like it’s a collection of great songs interspersed amongst average tracks. 8/10.

…and these DVDs:

…which I haven’t watched yet…

…and I did the G2 Crossword:

…which continues the great start of the week and officially becomes a streak as I only have to cheat on an eleventh of the clues (two out of 23) and I really should have gotten those two – ‘dank’ from ‘unpleasantly wet and cold’ and ‘diabolical’ from ‘fiendish’, maybe the little grey cells are failing and this is the end of the streak? Has my hubris brought about my crossword downfall?

…and some other crosswords/puzzles:
