Aka Monday 15th April to Thursday 18th
April 2019
On Monday I started my temp job and it felt good to be back
in the work force, earning some decent money (especially compared to UC, which
at best only just manages to keep your head above water), having a new
additional for the CV and hopefully this is just the start. Onwards and
upwards!
I was a little nervous when I walked to work and for the first
half hour or so, but everyone was very nice, and I soon settled into things and
started going through the work – inputting data. Anyway, here’s me walking to
work, a nice statue near work and a weird path near work which kinda reminds of
the chaos symbol that Nemesis would wear in Nemesis the Warlock:
...and then for the rest of the week (up to Thursday, as this
is Easter Week) was spent getting up to speed and ploughing through the forms
and inputting them into the database. But they’d be relatively long days, 8.30 –
5.30/6pm, so by the time I got home there’d only be a couple of hours before I
did to get to bed. So, just enough time to do a little weight lifting and have
dinner, not even enough time to read these New Comic Book Day beauties:
…and I did the G2 Crossword:
…and the week got off to a flying start as I only had to
cheat on a twelfth of the clues (two out of 23), my first pass got a fair chuck
of the answers and then the little grey cells started on the remaining clues.
Would have been a clean sweep if I’d known that a ‘Pasha’ was a ‘high-ranking
Turkish officer’ and that ‘spruce’ is a synonym for ‘well-dressed’, which was
kinda timely as I was spruced up for starting my new temp job (nice segue way
there😊), which I thought might have taken my mind
off of solving crosswords and made it a bit harder to complete, but it didn’t:
…while Tuesday’s crossword went okay, I just had to cheat on
a fifth of the clues (four out of 25). I think that my little grey cells are
struggling a little with me being back in work, they’re not used to splitting
their resources between crosswords and something else 😊,
because it really should have been a clean sweep:
…and Wednesday’s crossword went a little better, I only had
to cheat on an eighth of the clues (three out of 24) and I learnt that ‘ambit’
means ‘scope, that a ‘small island in a river’ is called an ‘eyot’ and that
‘Vendee’ is a ‘costal development of western France’:
…and Thursday’s crossword went even better, I think my
little grey cells have gotten used to me being back at work, and I only had to
cheat on an eleventh of the clues (two out of 22) and I learnt that an ‘apse’ is
part of a church and that ‘Alcott’, who wrote the book Little Women, died in
1888:
