Had my third Long
Walk of the week:
…and then I went
into town, while the shops are still open and it’s possible to support local
business before they have to shut down for the lockdown, and brought the latest
Ride album ‘This Is Not A Safe Space’, the DVD of ‘I Am Legend’, got my NCBD
comics and got the latest issues of Empire and Electronic Sound (plenty of reading for the lockdown!):
…the Ride album ‘This Is Not A Safe Space’, isn’t bad, walking the line
between the classic Ride sound and a more up to date sound. But I think it’s
going to take a few more listens more the songs settle in. 6/10. ‘I Am Legend’,
is the 2007 version of the classic story ‘I Am Legend’, a more faithful version
(at least in some ways) than ‘The Omega Man’. It really ups the visual stakes
with a ravaged New York that is being reclaimed by Mother Nature. I know it’s
probably all shot really early in the day or on green screen, but the shots of
Will Smith driving and walking through this ravaged New York are breath taking.
And Mr Smith does a great job in portraying the last man on Earth, with his
focus on finding a cure and how this has changed him. 7/10.
…and I did today’s
G2 Crossword:
…which went almost perfectly, with us only having to cheat
on one of the 24 clues – ‘outcome’, even though we had two of the intersecting
letters we couldn’t get to ‘upshot’…shows what giving the clues plenty of
chewing over gets you, like with 1 across ‘large island part of Canada’s mostly
easterly providence’, once I had the intersecting ‘a’ and ‘d’ the word could
only end in ‘…land’ and once I got the ‘f’ it could only be ‘Newfoundland’…
