Day 1145

Aka Monday 16th March 2020

And it’s the start of another week off today, ‘cos it’s my Birthday on Wednesday and no one should have to work on their Birthday! And I got my first Birthday card this year, from the ever excellent Modern Toss:

…followed by buying and watching ‘Superman: Red Son’:

…which is nice retelling of the classic Elseworlds tale ‘Superman: Red Son’, written by Mark Millar, pencils by Dave Johnson, Andrew Robinson, Walden Wong and Killian Plunkett, lettered by Ken Lopez and colours by Paul Mounts. As with most, possibly all, DC animated films ‘Red Son’ is well adapted, directed, animated and acted. It's the story of what happens when Kal-El/Superman's ship lands not in Kansas, but in Russia and he is brought up to be a good Soviet citizen, and it's interesting to see how the common goodness of Kal-El survives and is changed by his new environment and upbringing. Full of great action set-pieces and plenty of emotions, the only downside is that I wish it had been longer, so that we could get under the characters skins more, get to understand them and their actions better (and it may have allowed some of the ideas from the comics, like the time travel, to be explored).

…and then a few Blue Lagoons:

…and I did today’s G2 Crossword:

…which got the week off to good start, with only having to cheat on a sixth of the clues (four out of 24). The little grey cells chewed through (most of) the clues with only a few stumbles and we learnt that the ‘rope or wire used to support a mast’ is called a ‘stay’…
