Aka Saturday 29th December 2018
Today I worked on a covering letter for, and submitted, my application
for a job at the local Borough Council…fingers crossed…
…I also read the now traditional (three in a row is a trend,
right?) Christmas ‘Klaus’ story, ‘Klaus And The Crying Snowman’ (by Grant Morrison
and Dan Mora).
Which is a
great, fun, hopefully story that is beautifully illustrated about a strange meteor/comet, carrying death and destruction,
coming back to Earth and an absent father, who has returned as a snowman, who
holds the key to saving the Earth. The comet part is nice and dramatic, but it’s
the absent father part that brings the emotional punch and if you're not a bit
tearful at the end of the story you must have a heat of stone. 9/10.
And ‘Accell’ #14 – 16, Joe Casey’s tale of a young speedster
(with great art by Damion Scott and Ramon Bachs). ‘Accell’ is just a pure, uplifting
superhero tale about Daniel DosSantos, who one day gets speed powers and tries
to do good with them, to do the right thing. These issues see Daniel deal with
a bad guy who appears out of nowhere, heartache and a returning foe and they
have a sense of old-school superhero fun (with a modern-day setting) which is kinda missing from some of the mainstream superhero comics. 7/10.
…I also watched ‘Gothika’, which is nice ‘is-it-a-ghost-or-is-it-psychosis’
story (with a touch of serial killer thriller) and I can’t say to much about it
without giving everything away. Except to say that it’s an entertaining film,
with a good script, cast, directing, etc. 7/10.
…and I did the G2 Crossword:
…and the dip still continues on with today’s crossword, no
post-Christmas crossword excellence as I need to cheat on a fifth of the clues
(six out of 24) and again some the answers have me worried about the setter –
‘crook’, ‘abusive’ ‘with hind sight’ ‘in vain’ and ‘take sides’.
