Day 724

Aka Thursday 24th January 2019

Went for a morning constitutional, aka my long walk to get the newspaper, and managed to walk 9.24km (5.74 miles), in 1 hour 44 minutes and 58 seconds, which burnt through 996 calories and took 11,734 steps…

… I also received an invitation to interview for a post, but all three interview slots had been taken, so I have emailed them to see if there are additional interview slots and to clarify what documentation is needed for proof of ID (the information on this provided with the application and that provided with the invitation conflict)…I also completed and submitted a new, so fingers crossed…

…and I read ‘The Wild Storm#19 which, as we near the end of the series (or at least the end of the first 24 issues arc), we learn a lot more about the history of the Wild Storm universe’s Kherans and Daemons and why they are on Earth, as well as the secret history of Earth’s journey to Mars. A fun, information packed issue, with plenty of humour. Great writing and art as usual, although there is a slight printing problem with my copy as the first eight pages or so are a bit muddy and a tad off centre, not enough to interrupt the story, but enough to be noticeable. 8/10.

…and I watched ‘The Bye Bye Man’, a pretty good horror film about a bogeyman who is unleashed when three friends move into their new student home. There’s nothing particularly new about the story and it doesn’t really do anything new with the story elements, but it’s executed well enough, with good acting and scares and a nicely downbeat ending. It’s not fresh enough to be a great film and it’s not poor enough to be a “so bad it’s good/fun to watch” film. 5/10.

…and I did the G2 Crossword:

…and the good times don’t continue with today’s crossword as I had to cheat on three elevenths of the clues (six out of 22). While most of the answers came with relatively ease, those six didn’t, they just wouldn’t budge, but at least I learnt that ‘tahini’ is a ‘sesame-seed based foodstuff’.
