Day 739

Aka Friday 8th February 2019

…hurt my back a little, I don’t think I warmed up/down properly yesterday, so today was pretty much a day of rest…aside from working on and submitting an application for a HEO Policy Advisor post at MHCLG…and I did the G2 Crossword:

…and l had to cheat on a sixth of the clues (three out of 19) again fort today’s crossword. After a little thinking, most of the answers came easily, except I couldn’t get ‘volunteer’ from ‘offer one’s services’, and I went for ‘cows’ and not ‘oxen’ for ‘domesticated bovines’ and my lack of fishing knowledge meant that I couldn’t get ‘drift net’ from ‘fishing gear that floats with the current’.

Day 738

Aka Thursday 7th February 2019

…watched the ‘Ray Romano: Right Here, Around the Corner’ Netflix special…’Everyone Loves Raymond’ was a staple of my working week, Channel Four used to show three episodes in the morning and I’d watch an episode while having breakfast and getting ready and tape the rest and watch them in the evening…the combination of humour and family life was comfortable and easy going…and because Channel Four have had it on near rotation for the last ten years or so I think I’ve seen the whole series at least three times…so I was interested in seeing what Ray’s stand-up is like and it’s good…you can see how it got translated into a sitcom and how close he and TV Ray are…some of the material is more adult compared to ‘Everyone Loves Raymond’…but it still has a wholeness to it and doesn’t feel that dirty. 8/10.

…and I did the G2 Crossword:

…and I had to cheat on three clues for today’s crossword, but there were fewer clues, so it works out to cheating on a sixth of the clues. If I’d known that ‘Rockefeller’ was the surname of Gerald Ford’s vice president, that a ‘fretsaw’ is a ‘narrow-bladed cutter’ and that ‘fever’ also means ‘intense nervous excitement or anticipation’ it would have been a clean score.

Day 737

Aka Wednesday 6th February 2019

Today I walked a total of 10.24km (6.36 miles), which took 2 hours 18 minutes and 26 seconds, and burnt through 1,197 calories and took 14,408 steps…

…during which I got these New Comic Book Day beauties:

…and I picked up my copy of ‘The Movement Of The Free Spirit’ mix album by Prins Thomas, which so far has been a nice ambient mix (because I got it from Bandcamp I got the mp3’s as soon as my order was placed).

And because I pre-ordered the album from Smalltown Supersound’s Bandcamp page, it meant that it was posted to me from Norway, which meant that the Post Office and HMRC slapped an extra £13 pounds on it, which kinda felt like they were holding the album to ransom! And it kinda soured how I feel to the album now, I thought I was doing the right thing and buying it from the record label itself, instead of buying from Amazon. The extra VAT I can get my head round, but not the Royal Mail handling charge of £8, which all I can see means the card they post through your door asking for extra money!

…and I did the G2 Crossword:

…and things get better with today’s crossword as I only needed to cheat on an eighth of the clues (three out of 24) and I really should have gotten that a ‘musical interval of eight tones’ is an ‘octave’, especially as eight is right there in the clue!, but I did learn that Taipeh is in Taiwan. Will this continuance of improvement continue with tomorrow’s crossword?

...and I did some other crosswords and puzzles:
