I went into London Town for New Comic Book Day and got these
literary gems:
…I also picked up a few DVDs, ‘Oblivion’, ‘Sunshine’, ‘Jackass
3.5’ and ‘Looking Glass’, and a John Lee Hooker boxset:
…and the latest Uncut magazine for their Spiritualized article and free CD which has 'I'm Your Man' (a bluesy, gospely rock 'n' roll track) from the forthcoming album, And Nothing Hurt'….
…and when I got home the postman had delivered Sarah Horrock’s
Leopard Vol. 2:
…and then I did the G2 crossword:
...and watched ‘Oblivion’ and ‘Jackass 3.5’.
‘Oblivion’ is about the last two people on Earth, who are
over seeing the transfer of Earth’s resources to Titan, where humanity has
moved after a war with aliens had devastated Earth. Or are thy the last two
people on Earth? I thought this was a great sci-fi movie, with a nice Twilight
Zoneish twist, it’s well written, well shot and well-acted. I think the thing I
like most is that the film takes it time to show you what became of Earth, to
show you Victoria and Jack’s life and to take in the sights the film shows you.
‘Jackass 3.5’ is a basically a compilation of the bits that
didn’t make it into, and I think is a little funnier than, ‘Jackass 3’. If you like
Jackass, you’re like ‘Jackass 3.5’, but if you don’t ‘Jackass 3.5’ won’t
convert you. There’s not much point in describing the stunts, you need to see
them to get them, but the interviews in between the stunts are kinda revealing.
I maybe reading to much into them, but there seems to be a sense of this is the
end of Jackass and of looking back and marvelling at what they got away with.
