Woke up on Wednesday morning and my back hurt like a MF, in addition I felt nauseous and had episodes of feeling very light headed (due to the pain and lack of
sleep due to the bad back I guess). I also had a weird toothache, where my upper right-side
teeth would ache a lot for like ten seconds and then stop aching for hours and then
start up again! On Saturday, I ‘braved’ venturing into Town to do my weekly
food shop, got the bus there and back, and still feel completely knackered,
like I’ve run a marathon! Which has meant that I haven’t been able to physically do
much and haven’t felt mentally like doing much. What I did do is:
Re-watched some 'Rick and Morty' season 2 (and the first episode
of season 3), which still stands up and is funny (and sometimes) thoughtful,
Re-watched 'Triple 9' a cool crime film, with some great
acting and shoot-out’s, like someone says in one of the featurettes it’s like the
2010’s ‘Heat’,
Brought and watched 'Avengers: Infinity War', I’d really
liked seeing Infinity War in the cinema (I can’t stand heights and I’d even
gotten a tad sick when the spaceship leaves Earth and you see Iron Man and
Spider-Man get further away from the planet), but wasn’t sure if it would stand
up on a home viewing, but it does. I think watching it on a smaller screen helps to
emphasise the ‘quiet’ scenes and you’re out overwhelmed by the action scenes (and
there are plenty of them). It’s also got me hyped for the second part (which is
like a year away?). And I got a free Lego Teenage Groot keyring with it (when
you get the film from Sainsburys, while stocks last!),
Listened to music and podcasts, especially The Thing Minute,
which is looking at, and discussing, the film ‘John Carpenter’s The Thing’, one
minute at a time (currently listening to minute 24, only 85 to go!),
Played Bloons TD Battles,
Tried not to move to much!,
Read ‘Black Widow: S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Most Wanted’, which is about 120 pages long…boom, boom!, but seriously, Natasha is blackmailed into stealing secrets from S.H.I.E.L.D. and we follow her as she tries to turn the tables on the blackmailer and keep her secrets secret. This is a great solo Black Widow story that is perfected written and illustrated by Mark Waid and Chris Samnee, which I would describe as typical, old school Marvel story, there’s nods and touches to wider Marvel universe, but all you need is in the story, you don’t need read issue X of some other series. There’s great action scenes and flashbacks to Natasha’s childhood and the Marvel Cinema team would be daft not to tap it for the solo Black Widow film.
Read ‘John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction -
Vault’, a nice sci-fi horror tale. The main hook of the story has been told
before, but James Ninness does a great job in making it feel fresh and draws
out the tension, until it pops and we’re into action territory, and Andres
Esoarza and Sergio Martinez do a great job in illustrating the story,
especially in keeping the pages look dark and shadowy (although there are a
couple of times where it does become a tad hard to see what is going one), it’s
very cinematic.
Brought a washing machine on Monday (3rd
September), as our current one stopped working and it would have cost £100 plus
parts cost, to get someone out to look at, so we figured that getting it fixed
would cost pretty much the same as buying a new one, and
I did the G2 crosswords:
