Days 2120 - 2126

Aka Monday 7th September - Sunday 13th September 2020

A quiet week this week, but a sad one as Dame Diana Rigg, who played the iconic ‘Emma Peel’, died on Thursday…some artist tribuates:

...no Long Walk or weights this weekend, this weekend is a chill and relax weekend, let the aches and pains heal up weekend…also a weird feeling of ennui…on a happier note I did enjoy a few Tequila Sunrise’s this week:

…saw this neat Atlantis sticker:

…got this week’s New Comic Book Day gems:

…my copy of ’P2’ arrived:

...a neat cat and mouse thriller/horror, with two great leads, that doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but does what it does really well - plenty of scares & dread and a great look. Although the audio commentary is a bit dodge – ‘women look great covered in blood and bruised’!?!?!

…and I read ‘House of Sweets’ and ‘Plunge’ #1 - #6:

…both are great horror reads. ‘House of Sweets’ is more psychological, the past coming back to haunt you, while ‘plunge’ is more big budget, with the fate of the world in the balance, and psychological, kinda like John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’ (also, ‘Plunge’ is chock full of Carpenter reference’s, from character names to the feel of the plot). If I had more time I would write more, because both stories deserve better reviews.

…and I did this week’s G2 Crosswords:

…and Monday’s crossword gets the week of to a pretty kick ass start as we only had to cheat on one-twenty fourth of the clues (one out of 24). Solving the grid started slowly and I thought we were going to have to cheat on loads of the clues, but once we got ‘sandbag’ the rest just fell into place, like dominoes falling. Except for 16 down ‘daze – shock’, which we couldn’t solve to get ‘stupor’, but about them that a great start…

…and the little grey cells are mighty tired for Tuesday’s crossword, as we had to cheat on a fifth of the clues (five out of 24). For four of those five, we just couldn’t make the leap from the clue to the answer, but once we knew the answer it was so obvious, a right d’oh! moment, like how did we not get ‘stable’ from ‘unchanging’? But we did learn that an ‘artist’s workshop’ is called an ‘Atelier’…

…things bounced back with Wednesday’s crossword, we only had to cheat on a tenth of the clues (two out of 21). The answers just fell into place, like snowflakes settling on the ground, although I’m a tad sore that we didn’t get ‘Curacao’ from ‘liqueur made with peel of bitter oranges from an island in the Dutch Antilles’, as we’ve drunk plenty of it in the past! But we did learn that a ‘Nocturne’ is a ‘shot romantic composition for piano’…

…and things are still bouncing up with Thursday’s crossword. We only had to cheat on an eighth of the clues (three out of 23), the little grey cells are back on form. And we learnt that a ‘Bonito’ is a ‘food fish, like a small tuna’…

…Friday’s crossword dips a little, as we had to cheat on a seventh of the clues (three out of 21). It started off a but rough, it certainly took a while to get into the grid, but once we were in, the answers tumbled like dominoes. And we learnt that ‘coot or moorhen, for example’ are part of the ‘Rail’ family of birds and that ‘flat-bottom barges’ are called ‘lighters’…

…and Saturday’s crossword ends the week on a pretty high note as we only had to cheat on an eleventh of the clues (two out of 23). Again, the clues tumbled like dominoes, spilling out answers like confetti. And we learnt that ‘Prospero’s spirit’ is ‘Ariel’…
