Day 823

Aka Friday 3rd April 2019

I had a weird dream last night/this morning, which lingered with me for most of the day. It was like Abbott & Costello meets John Woo’s Hard Boiled meets The Wicker Man, and an ex, which left me feeling slightly discombobulated and wistful for the rest of the Friday. I remember the “plot” involving bombs or memory cards hidden in packets of marzipan, meeting the ex in a bar (for the first time), swapping numbers, meeting the ex in a bar (for the first time), swapping numbers, my house having a mystery beats/ghost/presence, then weird kids, a cross between Damien and the Village of the Damned kids, playing in the garden, then being in a lift, on my way to meet her, at work, except it was a civil service work place form the forties, with doors like they have on submarines, and in the lift were lawyers, and then waking up. We spilt up almost a decade ago, but she was very special, and it stayed with for the rest of Friday (and today). Maybe it was triggered by watching the trailer for the new Veronica Mars show – she was a strong blonde and the theme tune is/was ‘We Used To Be Friends’ by The Dandy Warhols and has the lines “A long time ago; We used to be friends; But I haven't thought of you lately at all”…or maybe it was just a dream about a time when I was young and carefree?

Back to more mundane/earthly matters, while I was in town, to do a little food shopping, I picked up the new Crazy P album ‘Age Of The Ego’ and the new Too Slow To Disco compilation, ‘Too Slow To Disco: Neo En France’:

‘Age Of The Ego’ is chock-a-bloc with beautiful house music, with a disco touch, equally perfect for the dancefloor and the BBQ…

…when I got home the Postie had delivered my copy of The Charaltans ‘A Man Needs To Be Told’ single, which includes, as a B-side, ‘Ballad Of The Band (Ianocce remix), which I didn’t previously have and couldn’t find on the online music vendors. And the remix takes an baggy rock ‘n’ roll song and amps up the funk and turns it into a nice half hip-hop, half rock ‘n’ roll head nodder.

And I did the G2 Crossword:

… and my little grey cells have perked themselves up as I only had to cheat on one of the 19 clues for Friday’s crossword. And it would have been a clean sweep if I’d remembered the word ‘fettle’ (for the clue ‘state of health’), but still pretty happy with it. I also liked 3 down, with the clue ‘majestic – month’ for the answer ‘august’, simple but not entirely obvious. Now that they are firing, I feel like I should put the little grey cells to work on a job application…
