Aka Saturday 26th January 2019
Today I did some more prep for next Wednesday’s interviews…
…then I watched ‘Polar’, the Netflix adaption of Víctor Santos’s comic about Duncan Vizla, a retiring (in the sense of collecting your
pension, not in the sense of meaning shy) hitman, who, for reasons unknown to
him, is targeted by a gang of hitmen and women (hit people?). This results in
Duncan going on a bloody rampage of revenge. Yes, ‘Polar’ isn’t 100% original,
but it is fun and the story and execution have a humour/joy about it, which
coupled with the charisma of the cast, led by Mads Mikkelsen, who plays Duncan, rises the
film up a notch, making it a bit special and meaning that you don’t worry that
the story not being original, you just get carried along. 7/10.
…and I did the G2 Crossword:
…and the good times do continue with today’s crossword as I
just need to cheat on a twelfth of the clues (two out of 24), would have been
better if I’d gone for ‘jam-packed’ instead of ‘ram-packed’ for 13 across
(‘completely full’) and had studied geography, that way I would have known that
a ’strip of land with water on both sides’ is called an ‘isthmus’. All in all,
a pretty good crosswording week this week, but will it continue for next week’s
crosswords?
