During the rest of April (Monday 16th to Monday
30th) I:
1. Brought an old copy of Future Music magazine, for the Lo-Fidelity
Allstars (one of the best bands ever!!!) article (and the free Lo-Fi’s samples
on the cover CD...maybe I'll try to make my own edit???).
2. Brought some DVDs:
- Zulu – a great “boys own” adventure film…”Zulu’s…thousand’s of ‘em…”.
- Get Carter – a real grim and gritty gangster film that set a template that others still try to copy/better.
- Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay – puts the Suicide Squad into the seventies exploitation/grindhouse era, searching for a magic get out of hell card, a fun film that might be better than the live action Suicide Squad film.
- Interview With A Vampire – a fun film, Tom Cruise chews the scenery, but it feels like a series of events, rather than one narrative.
- The Italian Job – surely everyone knows about The Italian Job??? The epitome of the Swinging Sixties.
- Agent Carter Season Two – feels more light-hearted than Season One and more sci-fiy, but is still a great series and a pity it wasn’t renewed.
- Mr Robot Season 3 – continues to ramp up the consequences of what Elliott/Mr Robot have done, as our heroes face tougher choices.
3. Brought some comics:
4. Brought some music:
- Greg Wilson’s Credit To The Edit Vol. 3 – Vol. 3 maintains the quality of the previous volumes (all three volumes should be in everyone’s collection) and is chock full of high quality edits and remixes.
- A Place To Bury Strangers ‘Pinned’ album, which I haven’t had a chance to listen too yet.
- The Stooges’ ‘Fun House’ is a heavy album (in the seventies sense), that makes you feel like a streetwalking cheetah.
- I’ve never been a big Prince fan, but I was looking at the track-list for this Best Of and there were too many that I recognised or liked for me not to buy it (although I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet).
- ‘Bela Lugosi's Dead’ is by far the best track on ‘Crackle’, the Bauhuas Best Of, and it’s worth getting this compilation just for this one track. The rest of the tracks aren’t bad, but for me, they are in the shadow if ‘Bela…’.
5. Helped my nephew do the floating egg trick:
6. I did the G2 crossword:
7. Almost got attacked by a dog during my morning walk, I don’t
know why, but this dog just came up to me, barking and a growling, and seemed to
be gearing up for more, and its owner did sweet FA.
8. And I saw Avengers: Infinity War, a really great cap to the
first ten years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, loads of action, loads of fun
and jokes and loads of feelings (the only downside was the drinks afterward, I
felt so rough for the next two days that I was basically house bound!!!). And I
saw this Art installation (?) near the tube station near the cinema.
