The ‘Beast from the East’ has gone! Things feel like they’re
back to normal, almost literally as if I’ve been defrosted. I started my walks
back up again and went into town for my mid-week food shop and picked up the
following:
Guns ‘n’ Roses album ‘Under theCovers’, which collects a load of live performances of their covers, such as
‘Live And Let Die’ and ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’. It’s not a bad album, but the tracks
are taken from radio broadcast, so the sound quality does vary a tad, from
great to dodgy.
Marvel partwork ‘Wolverine:Weapon X’, I can remember buying this series when it first came out and being
blown away by the gorgeous artwork, that we were finally getting the proper
history of how Wolverine came to be (unless Marvel has retro-conned in the last
twenty or so years!!!) and that it was messed up Government conspiracy black op
type operation.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life boxset, I seen these before and they’re fun films and since
Sainsburys had this for a fiver it was a no brainer to get it.
I also did today’s G2 crossword:
…which didn’t go so well, which has been the prevailing
trend of late, with having to cheat on seven of the twenty-one clues (a
third!!!). But at least I learnt that sinecure is another word for a cushy job.
And I finished watching Twin Peaks (Season 1 and Season 2) and it
wasn’t as weird as I thought it would be, it was more that the characters were kooky
or had odd or extreme traits, with occasions of freaky weirdness, such as giant
men and the Black Lodge.
For the first few episodes I kinda felt let down as I
was expected more weirdness and mysteries to think about and solve, like in
Lost, but then it clicked I enjoyed watching the characters living their lives,
coping with losing their friend, trying to solve the mystery, to outwit their
business rivals or cope with their loveless marriage.
I would describe Twin
Peaks as a cross between Northern Exposure or Gilmore Girls and Eerie, Indiana.
And now I really want to see Season 3, to find out (a) about the Black and
White Lodges and what happened to Agent Copper and Bob and (b) what happened to
everyone, did Audrey survive the explosion, did Ed get his divorce, etc.
