Day 207

Over the last few days I’ve been watching seasons one and two of Murder In Suburbia. Murder In Suburbia, or MIS, was first shown in 2004 and starred Caroline Catz and Lisa Faulkner as DI Kate Ashurst and DS Emma Scribbins, who investigate murders (some of which get pretty dark) in the “suburban English town of Middleford” (hence Murder In Suburbia). I really like this series and it’s a pity that there are only two seasons and when I first watched it I was in my late-twenties and it was the perfect post-pub/club viewing.

It’s similar to Midsomer Murders, in that this is a slightly fictionised world of suburbia with slightly wacky/larger than life characters and circumstances and that the baddies are found out and arrested by the end of the show. What’s different is that it stars two women who are successful at their jobs, get results, like each other and have realistic conversations (although some do focus on relationships and so might fail the Bechdel test) and have great jokes/one liners:

“Ash: What's my single, most important rule about men, Scribbs?
Scribbs: Uh, they mustn't be married?
Ash: No, the other one.
Scribbs: No bad boys.
Ash: Because?
Scribbs: They're bad.
Ash: And?
Scribbs: They're boys.”

Plus Caroline Catz is really hot and should star in everything.
