Today was a lazy day today and I mostly pottered about and read some comics (and as I’m over a month behind in updating this blog these are going to be really, really short capsule reviews):

Taarna #4: an action-packed finale to the series/story (I’m not sure if this is a four-issue mini-series or an ongoing). The art is beautiful, but it feels a little light in the plot/story department, although I think that might be due to reading it as individual issues, whereas I think it would feel meatier as a collection/single book. Written by Alex De Campi, art by Esau and Isaac Escorza, Colours by Carlos Cabrera, letters by Adam Wollet and edited by R. G. Llarena.

Angel #0: this is our first proper introduction to the new continuity Angel, and it is superb, with cracking writing and art. The team have done a great job in updating, making subtle changes, but keeping the core of Angel, he is still a vampire with a soul trying to make up for all the bad things he has done, while also punishing himself for his bad deeds. Written by Bryan Edward Hill, illustrated by Gleb Melnikov, coloured by Gabriel Cassata and lettered by Ed Dukeshire.

Peter Cannon Thunderbolt #4: a sheer masterclass in excellent storytelling, with the whole team hitting it out of the park, as the story switches between pure super-heroics and slice-of-live comics, all while homaging/investigating/meta-nessing ‘Watchmen’. Written by Kieron Gillen, art by Caspar Wijngaard, colours by Mary Safro and letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou.

The Wild Storm #22: and we finally get to see the new Authority in action against agents of Skywatch, as things are heating up with Jackie King in New York. An action-packed issue by writer Warren Ellis, art by Jon Davis-Hunt, colours by Steve Buccellato and letters by Simon Bowland.

By Night #11: a fun issue as we learn the secret origin of Chet Charles in the Other World and what he did to survive there, as he returns to Earth and takes control of his company and plans to destroy the other world. As the Other World plan their revenge on Chet Charles. Written by john Allison, illustrated by Christine Larsen, coloured by Sarah Stern and lettered by Jim Campbell.

Giant Days #50: featuring perhaps the worlds greatest cricket match and possibly the most downbeat ending ever to appear in Giant Days. A fun and emotions packed issue and perhaps the best comic I read this week. Written by John Allison, art by Max Sarin, colours by Whitney Cogar and letters by Jim Campbell.

Wyrd #3: an intriguing issue as Pitor meets an old friend he doesn’t remember, and we learn more about his history. The penultimate chapter in what ahs been a great little series. Written by Curt Pines, art by Antonio Fuso, colours by Stefano Simeone and letters by Micah Myers.
