Aka Thursday 28th March 2019
Went for my Long Walk this morning and walked 10.05km
(6.24miles) in 1 hour 50 minutes and 57 seconds, which burnt 1,100 calories and
took 12,560 steps:
…and when I got back, some of my New Comic Book Day comics,
which I’d ordered via eBay, had arrived:
‘Rick and Morty’ #48: another fun two story issue, in which
Kyle Starks, writer, and Marc Ellerby, illustrator, tell the story of a cosmic powered
Morty and Karla Pacheco, writer, and Ian McGinty, illustrator, tell the tale of
Hemorrhage visiting Summer/Summer doing her best to avoid Hemorrhage! With
colours by Sarah Stern and lettered by Crank! 6.5/10.
‘The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion’ #6: a real jam-packed
issue, by Gerard Way, writer, Gabriel Ba, artist, Nate Piekos, colorist, and
Nick Filardi, letterer, where the Academy try to keep the city safe, keep the bad
guys contained and not let them get out into the wider world and then take them
down. While the bad guys are just going wild and doing bad guy things. An action filled spectacular issue. 8/10.
‘William Gibson’s Alien 3’ #5: brings the story to an end,
but as with earlier issues it can be a little difficult to keep track of what is
happening (although that might just be me!) and I still don’t like the xenomorph
as a virus, especially as the resulting xenomorphs look to much like the hybrid
from ‘Alien: Resurrection’, but there are some great action scenes that beautifully
capture the kinetic-ness of the action and are very cinematic. So too is the ending,
which captures the calmness and peacefulness of space (and the endings of ‘Alien’
and ‘Aliens’). The adaption from William Gibson’s story and art are by Johnnie
Christmas, with color art by Tamra Bonvillain, and letters by Nate Piekos. 7/10.
…job searched and started, completed and submitted
application for a Policy Adviser post at MOJ…another application done and
submitted and I’m about at that point where I mostly expect to be rejected
(again) and given very little feedback on what I did wrong/what I need to improve
on…not that I’m bitter or anything!
…and I watched ‘The Best Of Dave Allen’, which brought back
a lot of memories of being young and staying up late to watch Mr Allen on the Beeb,
before going to bed. For me a lot of the
jokes still hold up, although there is a slight sexist edge to a couple of them
(although nothing compared to what a lot of other comics were doing around the same
time) and even when the jokes don’t land, it’s still enjoyable just listening
to Mr Allen talk. There’s something about the Irish accent that just makes it
nice to listen to, I guess it’s all down to the lilt 😊
…and I did the G2 Crossword:
…which goes well, very well indeed, as I only had to cheat
on an eleventh of the clues (two out of 22). If I’d been a bit more thoughtful,
I might have remembered that ‘not a sausage’ can mean nothing and have gotten
the answer ‘zero’ and might have gone for ‘paternity suit’ instead of
‘paternity test’, it might have been a clean sweep!
