Aka Monday 4th February 2019
Today I walked for 4.73km (2.94 miles), which took 1 hour 4
minutes and 20 seconds, and burnt through 536 calories and took 6,679 steps…
…and I brought ‘Bad Times At The El Royale’:
…which I really enjoyed. It’s got a great cast and script,
with plenty of noirish elements, with no-one being exactly what they seem, and
it looks beautiful, bit in terms of the sets and how it’s filmed. In a nutshell
it’s about four people who stay at the same hotel at the same time and how
their stories intertwine. There’s a slight Quentin Tarantino feel to the film,
there’s the noirish elements of criminals and people with something to hide and
circumstances making then reveal who they are. And there’s a slight non-linear
structure to the film, where, sometimes, we follow a character until they
interact with another character and then we backtrack a little to see what that
character was doing beforehand. And it’s got a great soundtrack, which reminded
me of the early Tarantino soundtracks, where as soon as you left the cinema you
wanted to buy the soundtrack. 8/10.
…and I did the G2 Crossword:
…which gets the week off to a pretty okayish start as I only
had to cheat on a fifth if the clues (four out of 25) and I learnt that leaves
have lobes, that ‘Vishnu’ is a ‘Hindu deity, the Preserver’ and that ‘Benin’ is
an ‘old West African kingdom from which ‘bronze’ sculptures were looted by the
British in 1897’ (although using the British looting as an identifier doesn’t
really narrow it down significantly).
