Day 632

Aka Wednesday 24th October

No New Comic Book Day for me today as there was only one comic out this week that I wanted to get (‘Mars Attacks' #1). Instead of going all the way to London to get it, I ordered it from ebay on Sunday and it should arrive later today or tomorrow…

…I did go into town for a mid-week food shop and I picked up the re-mastered reissue of The Beta Band’s ‘The Beta Band’, because the reissue comes with a bonus disc of two rare tracks – ‘The Hut’ and ‘Happiness and Colour’, which are two ambient tracks, in the vein of The KLF’s ‘Chill Out’ and ‘Waiting’. ‘The Hut’ and ‘Happiness and Colour’ do tap into that journey aspect of ambient, where you can just chill out, zone out and relax, although there are a couple of places where it sounds more like the record button has been pressed by accident and you're getting unplanned ambience :)...

…and I finished watched season one of ‘Castle Rock’, which I enjoyed and found to be very creepy. If you’re a Stephen King fan or just a general horror fan, there isn’t anything really new in ‘Castle Rock’, there’s the psychic who sees her own death, childhood secrets, the mad & murderous bed and breakfast owner, spooky woods, etc., but the writers do a great job in making them feel fresh and create a sense of foreboding and dread and creepiness. As the episodes go on they get better and better and there’s a great twist towards the end (although it might not be a twist), but I can’t go into details without spoiling the show, and the only downside/problem I had was that sometimes when someone or something was referenced/mentioned it felt like there was a wink attached (e.g. Diane using her uncle’s surname, Torrance, instead of her own surname, being a wink to her uncle Jack Torrance, from ‘The Shining’). 8/10.

…and I did the G2 crossword:

…which went terribly bad, as I needed to cheat on almost half the clues (seven out of 18)! In hindsight most of the answers are obvious, but they just didn’t come to me, maybe I was distracted too much by preparing for the psychometric and verbal tests that are part of these latest job applications. Curse this job hunting getting in the way of crosswording!
