Aka Wednesday 10th October
Today is New Comic Book Day and although the pickings were
slim, what I did get is pretty damn top notch:
…with the comics I also picked up the latest 'Electronic Sound’ magazine, mostly for the interviews with Graham Crabb, from Pop Will Eat Itself, talking about how
‘Def Con One’ was made and John Carpenter talking about his music career. Great
reads.
…I also got notified that my previous job application had
been rejected, but at least this time I got some feedback. Basically, when I
applied I was asked to explain how I met four different competences, each
competency has a maximum score of 7 and for all four I scored 14. Half marks,
so not great, but not terrible and I know where I need to revise and improve.
…I also watched ‘Don’t Knock Twice’ a horror film featuring a witch,
who may or may not be The Baba Yaga, who is summoned by people who knock twice
on her door. She then hunts and kills who knocked on her door, unless they
provide another person to take their place. The film starts with Chloe (played
by Lucy Boynton) and her friend Danny (played by Jordan Bolger) knocking on the
door as a lark. Later Danny is killed, and Chloe flees to stay with her estranged
mother (played by Katee Sackhoff) and together they try to defeat the witch and
break the curse, all while being tracked by Detective Boardman (played by Nick Moran).
‘Don’t Knock Twice’ isn’t a bad film, but it’s not a great film either, the characters
could do with a bit more fleshing out, but it has a good cast, the story/plot
makes sense, although it is a pretty common plot, and it has scares. 5/10.
…and I did the G2 crossword:
…which went a tad downhill as I needed to cheat on over a
quarter of the clues (five out of 22), mainly because I didn’t give myself
enough time to think through the clues – I should have gotten ‘adapts’,
‘unashamed’ and ‘shortage’, but I did learn a new word for ‘lively eagerness’ –
‘alacrity’ – and that ‘thresh’ means to ‘extract grain from husks’.
…and I completed the ‘The Standard’ easy crossword, although
I’m not sure how much of an achievement that is 😊!
