Aka Monday 24rd September
A few weeks ago, I got a voucher for a free eye test from
Specsavers, and I had the test today and it’s mostly fine, except that I
realised, that as I was explaining now that when I read something on my phone I
look over my glasses, that I’m now/almost old (or at least my eyes are getting
there) and the optician suggested that when I get my next lenses I might need/want
to get varifocal lenses. Next thing you know I’ll be wearing my glasses on a
string!
As I was in town I brought a DVD of ‘Solo’, which I quite
liked, possibly because it had practically nothing to do with the Skywalkers, it’s
simply a space adventure. It is a little tick boxy, we get to see how Han
becomes the rogue he is in ‘A New Hope’, how he and Chewy met and team up, how
he gets to know Lando, how he does the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs and how he wins
the Millennium Falcon, which kinda gets in the way of the story, especially
when he rips peoples arms of, a la the chess game in ‘A New Hope’, but not too
much. The actual story is a nice little heist story, which gives plenty of
opportunity for double and triple crosses and set-pieces. Although, I was
slightly annoyed that they added an escape pod to the Falcon, which I assume
was only to sell new toys, if an escape pod was part of the Falcon, why did
Lando and Han never, ever replace it? 7/10.
I also watched the first three episodes of Season Two of 'Agent Carter' and started up my weights routine, I had taken a break, for a
month or so, after I hurt my back, but I think I’ve rested it enough now and I
need to get back into a healthier shape.
…I also did the G2 crossword:
…which went okayish, I only needed to cheat on a fifth of
the clues (four out of 21), although I’d argue that ‘witchcraft’ is not a
‘sorcery skill’, rather that witchcraft and sorcery are two separate things, I
also learnt that the ‘missal’ is the ‘book of texts for the Catholic Mass’ and
that ‘Ethiopia’ was ‘formerly Abyssinia’.
