I woke up this morning feeling a little out of sorts, so
didn’t get much done, aside from getting the paper, doing the crossword (which I did okish on, got most of them, but still needed to much help) and watching
a couple more episodes of Columbo, the film Triple 9 and reading the latest
issue of Kaijumax Season 3.
Triple 9 is a
pretty decent film, with a shed load of good actors (Casey Affleck, Chiwetel
Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Norman Reedus, Kate Winslet, Gal Gadot and
Woody Harrelson), great direction and photography (the city, the estates,
offices, etc. all look great and seedy at the same time and are almost
character in this film) and an interesting story, but it doesn’t quite make the
best use of them. The story is basically about a heist crew, made up of ex-soldiers
and serving cops, who get into a tricky situation, but as the crew members are killed
off, the story becomes more straight forward and ‘Hollywoody’, all the bad guys
are dead, the good guy is left standing and the good cop who cuts corners and
takes drugs redeems himself. It’s still a satisfying film, but I feel that if
they had carried through some of the initial murkiness to the films end it
would have been a classic.
I’m not sure what to say about Kaijumax Season 3 #2, aside
from if you’re not reading it you are really missing out on some great storytelling.
They are funny bits, one liners and properly dramatic and emotional storylines
going on. The only downside or problem I can think of is that the slang, like ‘my
lizzers’, is slipping into my everyday conversations and thoughts!
