Aka Monday 21st February - Sunday 27th February 2022
The major thing this week is that on Tuesday the PM announced that all Covid legislation will be lifted over the next month or so…which sounds a little bit foolhardy and more aimed at his backbenchers and donors, than being a sensible thought-out policy idea. Covid is still about, people are still getting ill and some are still dying. It may be fewer numbers than before, but they are still significant and could get worse if people relax too much…time will tell I guess…I didn’t get up to much this week, my health is still not where it was, but I did manage to go for a Medium Walk:
…and picked up this week’s New Comic Book Day treasures:
…and the postman delivered the following treasures, ’Strontium Dog – The Life & Death of Johnny Alpha’:
...which meant that I’ve finished my ‘Strontium Dog’/Johnna Alpha reading (except for his crossovers with Judge Dredd) and it’s a fitting end as it ends with the return of Johnny and a resetting of the status quo for mutants in this universe, leaving some shimmers of hope, and ‘Steve Lamacq’s Bootleg Sessions’ tape:
...which I got for the session version of ‘One Man’s Fear Another Man’s High’ by the Lo-Fidelity Allstars (which is epic), but it’s also got some nice songs from the Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Asian Dub Foundation and The Beta Band:
…and ‘Nightmare Fuel’ #1 (which I haven’t read yet, but I've enjoyed Fraser Campbell's previous comics)…and I did this week’s G2 Crosswords:
…and Monday’s grid gets the week off to a storming start as we didn’t have to cheat on any of the clues. The little grey cells were firing on all cylinders today…
…we take a little tumble with Tuesday’s grid, we had to cheat on an eighth of the clues (three out of 23). I guess the little grey cells had burnt themselves out a little after yesterday’s clean sweep…flew a little too close to the sun kinda. But we did learn that a ‘Clydesdale’ is a ‘horse of a heavy powerful breed’ and that a ‘rascal’ can be called a bad hat…
…we carry on tumbling with Wednesday’s grid, cheating of a sixth of the clues (four out of 24). We did learn that ‘Atlanta’ is the ‘capital of Georgia’, that ‘éclat’ means ‘stylishness’ that a ‘testator’ is ‘one making a will’ and that a ‘man’s close-fitting padded jacket worn in Shakespeare’s time (with hoes)’ is called a ‘doublet’. Maybe it’s a background worry about Ukraine and Russia, that’s distracting us a bit? It is a v stressful situation, and even if the conflict stays between Ukraine and Russia and doesn’t get worse, it’s still going to hurt a lot of people and if it does get worse it’s going to affect the whole world…all because of one man’s idiocy…
…and things pick up with Thursday’s grid, we only had to cheat on a twelfth of the clues (two out of 25), as things go downhill for the Ukraine. Such a pointless, stupid situation that’s going to hurt so many people…
…Friday’s grid went pretty well, we only had to cheat on a tenth of the clues (two out of 21). We didn’t get ‘carefree’ from ‘totally unworried’ or ‘philanthropy’ from ‘desire to promote the welfare of others’, which isn’t surprising as there doesn’t seem to be much of either in the world at the moment…it does seem that the world is turning more and more rotten…
…Saturday’ grid ends the week on an okayish note, we only had to cheat on an eighth of the clues (three out of 24). We didn’t get ‘deathless’ from ‘immortal’ or ‘avarice’ from ‘insatiable desire for wealth’, both of which seem somewhat relevant given current global events…
