Aka 26 Feb to 4 Mar
This week I:
1. Didn’t get up too much because of the ‘Beast from the
East’. Monday was fine as the snow was just starting to arrive:
…but boy did it come on Tuesday:
…which basically stopped my morning walks, except to the
local shop to get the paper, as it was (a) too cold to be out for long and (b)
Thursday the snow was turning to ice and slush and the pavements were getting
very slippery. Also, the cold got
indoors as well, so, it felt like most of my time was spent keeping warm,
rather than catching up on my books or comics or CDs/mp3s or DVDs, although I
did catch up with and finish reading the newspaper supplements that had mounted
up throughout February:
…and the snow started to melt on Friday and by Sunday it was
pretty much gone:
2. Brought and watched ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and it’s as good as
I remember, it certain feels like Marvel Studio has hit it’s stride recently,
perfected its formula and is knocking them out of the park. Which is weird when
you consider that we cheering on some not so nice people or people who have
done some bad things, like Loki, or the Hulk, who is no longer a mindless
beast, who during his time on Sakaar as the champion must of killed a few/loads
of people and that Valkyrie would have sold a few people into slavery and/or to
fight the Hulk (who would have probably killed them or at least severely hurt
them).
3. Watched the first episode of season four of iZombie,
which was excellent and nicely set up the new status quo (e.g. Clive and Dale
are back together, yay, but they are kinda not due to zombieness), new story
lines (Filmore Graves is making the law, police officers are partnered with
zombies, but are zombie visions permissible as evidence?, etc.) and, for new
viewers, recapping how the world of iZombie works. The only downside I can
think of is that the murder mystery didn’t get much screen time and it felt
like we only got to see a little of Liv on Seahawks & zombie hater brain.
4. Listened to the second episode of Sara Pascoe’s The Modern
Monkey, which focused on jealousy and was better/more fun than episode one (maybe
because jealousy is more relatable than murder?).
5. Managed to get to the comic book shop, despite the ‘Beast
from the East’, for New Comic Book Day:
…but getting back home was a nightmare and I ended up stuck
at Basildon Train Station for an hour in the very cold, cold outdoors before
the trains were back up and running again and I was able to complete my journey
home (what should have been an hour’s journey was turned into a 3-and-a-half-hour
journey!). To illustrate here are some pics (and video) I took on Wednesday:
I also got 2000AD Partwork, Rogue
Trooper Volume 1 and Lucas Stand TPB:
6. Brought this excellent ambient track, Echo Chamber, by Richard Norris, which is described as “Echo Chamber is of a reflective and contemplative nature, written in
the autumn, with a few dark winds whipping up the leaves. There's
something moving in the woods...” and I can't top that description, so I'll just say buy it asap!
7. Did this drawing for my nephew while he was having his
lunch:
8. Did the G2 crosswords:
